Overview. This project was one of my favorites I have ever worked on. This is a highly requested feature for Dropbox for Business teams, so my work had real impact for the hundreds of thousands of enterprise teams using Dropbox. This project involved mounting a new shared folder to the root Dropbox directory of eligibile users and sending them notifications (web, mobile, desktop, email) letting them know about the new shared folder.

Process. This was a very complex project, as I had to work within the complex Dropbox infrastructure. To design this, I used an internal tool for queuing asynchronous events to add an asynchronous task for auto-mounting a shared folder for the invited users. Due to the asynchronous nature of the environment, I had to handle many (many) race conditions involving both mounting and notifications.

Overview. My main summer project at CBS Sports was to re-build their live draft tracker app from scratch in React. The site provides live updates (reading from socket data so users do not have to refresh the page) on draft picks, trades between teams, in-depth analysis and statistics on players, live Twitter feeds, and more. The site draws in 2.93 million monthly page views and 1.24 million monthly unique visitors.

Process. As the old version of the web app was in an outdated JavaScript framework, I needed to re-create the entire app from scratch (including views, styles, and data flow). I worked with the engineering team to determine the format of the socket data from the server, the design team to implement a new design pattern for the app, and the product team to alter functionality on the page that I thought could be improved. Completing a working prototype of the app took about 4-5 weeks. I then spent a while working with design and functional QA teams to improve the design of the app and catch any bugs.

Overview. After finishing the draft tracker app, I spent the remaining (short) time I had at CBS Sports working on a back-end project. This was part of a larger goal to automate the process of tagging videos (to automatically pair relevant videos with articles that editors write). I worked on building a data pipeline that read in videos from the CBS Sports HQ video stream and transcoded them into .mp4 format. These videos were then sent to AWS Transcribe to produce audio transcripts which were processed by an NLP model to produce relevant tags.

Process. As I only had about 1.5 weeks to work on this project, my main goal was learning as much as I can about back-end processes, specifically AWS and ML. I learned about various AWS services (EC2, Lambda, API Gateway) and was able to work on connecting them together.

Overview. As one of the two major projects of DEV over Summer 2017, Scholar Starter is a large-scale Uber-like delivery service for college students. Two mobile apps for (both on iOS and Android) were created: a buyer app and deliverer app. The buyers, college students, order products on the buyer app (which is connected to Shopify) and input a delivery location. Deliverers receive notifications upon new orders and claim them, which then appear on the deliverer app which has order information pulled from Shopify and navigation (Google Maps) to the next destination. The app also includes full in-app payment support and live-tracking of deliverers.

Process. Managing a team of 7 Harvard engineers full-time for 8 weeks, I directed the app's design, engineering, and overall progress. We began with the buyer app, connecting to Shopify and using a tool (Shoutem) to integrate aesthetic designs and components such as an RSS news feed. The deliverer app featured integration with Shopify, Apple APN (for push notifications), Google Maps, and HyperTrack (for live tracking of deliverers).

Overview. For a startup out of Brown University, a team of 6 engineers and 2 Product Managers I co-led built a fully functional MVP for a patient-centric physical therapy data app called BodySync. BodySync is a mobile-first web app that allows patients in physical therapy to clearly and effectively track their progress toward recovery, allowing interaction and communication with personal trainers who measure progress and update weekly goals. BodySync offers a variety of advanced visual features, including progress graphs, customizable exercise sets, and convenient patient views for personal trainers.

Process. This was a massive project, involving thousands of lines of code and 8 developers working simultaneously on the codebase for 5 months. Based on a Node.js and Express.js framework, the app involves a two-layered server framework (reverse proxy) for additional security. The back-end is based on SQL and mongooseJS. The front-end is built from vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Authentication includes tokens, secret keys, and access headers.

Overview. To revamp the Harvard Business School Entrepreneurship Club's website, a new site was made from scratch. It is mainly a static content site custom-made JavaScript front-end features including a dynamic Q&A section and a contact form integrated with Google Sheets.

Process. This was a relatively simple project, as most of the site consists of static content. Interesting features include: integration of the contact form with Google Sheets, single-application design paradigm, and inclusion of an external widget (Wild Apricot for membership management). In terms of deployment, this site uses GitHub Pages for hosting. The site was also built in a Jekyll framework to allow integration with Siteleaf, a code-free content management system. This allows the HBS Entrepreneurship Club to simply edit the site on Siteleaf directly (only needing to change text boxes in a web form), which then pushes to GitHub automatically and deploys the new version. This paradigm basically models the ease of CMS of Squarespace while still allowing HSA Dev to create the site from scratch.

As part of a complete brand re-design, Xfund, a large venture capital firm in Cambridge, contracted HSA Dev to build a new website from scratch. The is mainly content-based, with a very modern, aesthetic design.

Overview. For the final project in my AESTH-INT 37 (Introduction to Bible in the Humanities and the Arts) class, I built an advanced Facebook Messenger chatbot called The John Bot. It assumes the identity of John the Apostle, specifically in the context of his authorship of the Book of Revelation.

Process. Based on the Facebook Messenger API documentation, I built this Messenger chatbot from scratch. It follows a standard Node.js server paradigm using Express.js, involving some special webhook GET and POST routes to connect with the Facebook Messenger API.

Overview. As a final project in my CS 50 (Introduction to Computer Science) class, I (along with a team of two other people) built an interactive website for Harvard students called Harvard Deals. The site allows Harvard students to make an account and subsequently view, save, use, and share all coupons and deals specifically created for Harvard students. The Undergraduate Council (UC) at Harvard expressed interest in the site and is currently in discussion with myself to roll the website out University-wide through the official Harvard Omni app.

Process. To fit the standard specifications of the CS 50 course, the site is based on a Python web server paradigm using the Flask framework. It involves a SQL (SQLite) database with account creation, log in, and admin database control features. The front-end is built mainly with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS in the same style as the Josh Seides site.

For the final project in my CS51 (Introduction to Computer Science II) class, I built a metacircular interpreter for the functional programming language OCaml. This interpreter is Turing-complete, with its REPL (read-eval-print-loop).

Overview. This site features a modern, aesthetic design to promote The BOSS Project, a rock band from Florida. It includes information on the band, an interactive calendar of upcoming shows, an online music player for all the band's songs, an online e-commerce platform for band merchandise, and more.

Process. Due to the the need for the band to continually update the site themselves, I decided to use Squarespace to help design the site (Squarespace also makes e-commerce very simple and secure). From the Squarespace baseline, I customized the site and injected code (mainly HTML snippets) where needed.

I made this site for my uncle, Ted Seides. He is a prominent hedge fund investor who just released a book on managing hedge funds. I built this site completely from scratch, not using any website development tools or builders. It is mainly a display of static content with some Bootstrap designs for some attractiveness in the display as well as a PHP contact form.

This site is a professional recruiting website for my sister, Jenna. It includes statistics from high school and club volleyball, videos, photos, and more. The site has a modern, tabbed design with smooth transitions on a single-page application.
